Dr Jake is from Findlay, OH and earned his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Belmont University in 2013 and a Bachelors of Science in Health Management and Business Minor from The Ohio State University in 2009.
Jake has been practicing in outpatient orthopedics for the majority of his career. He began in Tuscaloosa, AL working with athletes from Stillman College and local high schools as well as individuals from the community. He had the opportunity to return to Ohio and settled in Cincinnati where he briefly worked in a rehab setting sharpening his neurology skills working with clients recovering from strokes as well as joint replacements. Jake returned to outpatient therapy at a large local orthopedic practice for ten years and was a clinic director for six years.
Jake is highly skilled in treating a wide variety of both surgical and non-surgical conditions including joint replacements, rotator cuff / labrum repairs, ACL / meniscus reconstruction, and spinal surgery. He also successfully treats chronic neck and back pain, headaches, sciatica, radiculopathy, shoulder impingement, knee pain and hip pain.
Jake is passionate to work with individuals who have been suffering from pain, feeling limited in their capabilities and are losing hope of recovering. He believes in the power of touch and utilizes manual assessments and treatment techniques to discover the root cause of the pain. He believes in empowering his clients to take charge of their situation and partners with them to move better with less pain utilizing a variety of hands-on techniques including dry needling, spinal manipulation, joint mobilization, soft tissue mobilization, and blood flow restriction. Pairing this with tailored movements to make the improvements last.
I was first exposed to the world of Physical Therapy as a client. I am an athlete and have battled injuries through the years. My senior season, I suffered a major injury to my knee that, fortunately, did not require surgery and I was able to rehab it. I enjoyed the process of training to regain strength and power for my return to the field. It was at that point I realized I enjoyed serving others and saw physical therapy as a great opportunity to help others in a very significant way. It brings me great joy to eliminate people's pain and limitations and empower them to return to their daily activities and hobbies without limitations.
I have been practicing physical therapy since 2013 and I am continually learning and honing my skills and techniques to better serve my clients in their recovery. I have taken extensive training to hone my manual therapy skills and understanding of acute and chronic pain ailments and treatments.
I have studies Geoffrey Maitland Australian Physiotherapy approach for joint mobilization and manipulation; HVLAT manipulation of the cervical, thoracic, lumbar, and SI joint with Spinal Manipulation Institute; Certification in Dry Needling from Dry Needling Institute; Champion Performance Specialist from Mike Reinold; RRCA Level 1 Run Coaching Certification from Road Runners Club of America; Blood Flow Restriction Rehabilitation from Owens Recovery Science.
I have been influenced by many in my career and try to take nuggets from each of them to create my own eclectic approach to healthcare. I have been influenced by many of my instructors both in PT school as well as the ConEd courses. The individuals who have helped shape me the most include: James Escaloni and Ray Butts from Spinal Manipulation Institute. They are a wealth of knowledge and inspiration for improving clients' health. Mike Reinold and Erson Religioso for helping deepen my understanding of accessing movement, treatment frameworks, as well as introducing me to modern pain science education.
I love the impact of being able to serve people by eliminating pain and dysfunction and returning them to the activities they love most. I love the field of Physical Therapy because the available tools to improve a client’s health are numerous and diverse and I am able to utilize most of them to deliver a world class product that can have a profound impact on people's lives and future. I can take the best of nutrition, fitness training, chiropractic, massage, Acupuncture (Dry Needling), primary care, and pain management to create a bespoke holistic plan for each individual.
The majority of my experience is orthopedic and manual therapy. I enjoy working with clients who are suffering from pain at the neck, back, hips, knees, and shoulders. Whether they are a weekend warrior trying to accomplish their next 5k or marathon, a busy mom who wants to be able to pick up her child without pain, a recent retiree who is trying to take control of their physical health, or a grandparent just wanting to feel more comfortable walking in the yard, getting up from chairs or confidence going down the stairs. If you feel hopeful or even feel hopeless, if you are motivated to improve your situation, I would love to partner with you to accomplish your goals.
I always prioritize my client’s needs and ultimate goals. When I first meet my client, I take the time to understand their pain, limitations, past treatments and future goals. I then do a detailed assessment to discover the true root cause of your pain or limitation and create a customized plan to return them to their goal activity. Recovery is rarely a straight line, so the plan can be adjusted as progress is made.
My mission is to serve the needs of my clients, eliminate their pain and / or limitations and return them to the activities they love as quickly as possible.
I enjoy spending my time with my wife and family. Most of my spare time is spent chasing my three boys and daughter around. There is constantly something being thrown, wrestled, or colored. I try to get as many quiet moments with my wife as possible and enjoy checking out delicious food and unique restaurants.
I also get joy from being in nature, going on walks, hikes and jogs. I love traveling and photography, taking pictures of landscapes and waterfalls. I enjoy home DIY projects and always have something in the works.
