BACKGROUND
How did you get into your field?
I have loved fitness for years as a personal hobby. During the pandemic, I realized that I wanted to pursue a career in something I was passionate about. I also enjoy creating 1 on 1 connections with people, so when I thought about it, it made perfect sense that I could start a career as a personal trainer and I would love doing it, which I do!
What is your training background?
I have been a trainer for 3.5 years now, all of which I have spent previously training out of local rec centers. I have worked with clients ages 8 to 85, with different backgrounds, conditions, concerns and goals. I am also a corrective exercise specialist, and a certified boxing fitness trainer through the Boxing Fitness Academy.
Who influenced your career path (who have you enjoyed learning from, mentor, etc)?
I had a client who at the time was in his late 70s. He was an army vet with a long list of injuries, medical conditions, and chronic pain. Every week there was something new bothering him. This forced me to learn more about the connections between joint health, strength, and pain. Eventually this led to me becoming a corrective exercise specialist and my interest in helping adults with chronic pain.
What makes you love your field?
I love seeing just how important strength training is for everyone. I have personally seen how it has given teenagers confidence, parents more energy, and seniors more independence and less pain.
INTERESTS/SPECIALITIES
What sets you apart?
What sets me apart is how I look at fitness. When we work together, we don’t just train to look better. We train to feel better at the end of the day, to play golf, to play with our children or grandchildren. When we work together, you will see how strength training creates a ripple effect to every other part of your life.
What kind of clients do you love working with?
I love working with clients that are new to strength training. I love seeing them develop an interest in fitness once they start seeing the physical and mental benefits. I also enjoy working with seniors that experience mobility issues and muscle weakness. I really feel like I’m making a difference when a senior tells me that they feel less pain, more energy, and impress their family when they’re able to carry heavy objects around by themself.
What’s your mission?
My mission is to show the benefits of strength training to others regardless of their age, gender, or background. I want to fix the incorrect myths of strength training and weight loss, and show that the gym is for everyone.
HOBBIES
What brings you joy? What do you do with your spare time?
My biggest source of joy is my wife, Kristen and our little boy, Jett. In my spare time, I enjoy training for different challenges like spartan races and the murph challenge. I also enjoy going to different breweries with my family.
