Katie B. is a board-certified physician assistant.
I started my career in conventional medicine more than 17 years ago, and I’ve always loved the science of medicine and the opportunity to help people feel better. But over time, I became increasingly interested in the questions that don’t always fit neatly into a diagnosis. For example, why someone can have “normal” labs and still feel exhausted, why symptoms across seemingly unrelated systems often occur together, and why two people with the same diagnosis can need very different approaches.
That curiosity led me into functional and precision medicine, where I’ve spent the past seven years working with thousands of clients and educating other healthcare practitioners. Along the way, my work with breathwork and nervous system regulation also deepened my understanding of how profoundly stress, our environment, and even the stories we carry can affect physical health.
Ultimately, I created Alyria Health because I wanted to bring all of those pieces together: the rigor of conventional medicine, the deeper investigation of functional medicine, and a whole-person understanding of health. I love being able to sit with someone long enough to hear the full story, connect the dots, and create a plan that makes sense for them to improve their wellness now and for the future.
I’m a Board-Certified Physician Assistant with more than 17 years of clinical experience and seven years of specialized experience in functional and integrative health. Throughout my career, I’ve pursued extensive continuing education in functional laboratory interpretation, personalized treatment planning, lifestyle medicine, mental health, and nervous system regulation.
I also have specialized training in women’s and men’s hormone health, including perimenopause, menopause, andropause, and post-menopausal hormone optimization. My education has included evidence-based approaches to hormone assessment and management, metabolic health, healthy aging, and longevity.
In addition to clinical practice, I have several years of experience teaching, training, and mentoring healthcare practitioners in functional medicine and the practical application of personalized, whole-person care. I speak regularly at conferences and educating practitioners in and outside of the health and wellness world.
There are honestly too many to name. I’ve always been an avid learner and have been influenced by clinicians, researchers, educators, and thought leaders across both conventional and functional medicine. I love reading, attending lectures, reviewing the literature, and learning from people who challenge the way I think.
I don’t necessarily need to agree with someone’s perspective to learn from them. I’m interested in understanding the evidence, questioning assumptions, and considering how new information translates into real-world clinical care. To me, medicine is both science and art because the science gives us the foundation, while experience, critical thinking, and understanding the individual in front of you guide how that science is applied.
What I love most about this field is the opportunity to be curious. Every person brings a different story, biology, history, and set of circumstances, and I genuinely enjoy putting those pieces together. There is something incredibly rewarding about helping someone finally understand why they haven’t been feeling like themselves and giving them a clear path forward.
I also love that this field never allows me to stop learning. There is always an answer for everything even if it's not yet apparent. Medicine and our understanding of the human body are constantly evolving, and there is always another layer to explore. For me, the combination of science, problem-solving, human connection, and the ability to make a meaningful difference in how someone feels and lives is what makes this work so fulfilling.
I love working with people who are curious about their health and ready to be an active participant in feeling better. Often, they’re doing many of the “right” things but still don’t quite feel like themselves whether that shows up as fatigue, hormone changes, difficulty with weight or metabolism, digestive concerns, brain fog, or simply knowing they could feel better than they do.
I especially enjoy working with clients who want to understand the why behind what they’re experiencing and appreciate a thoughtful, collaborative approach to their care. You don’t have to come in knowing exactly what’s wrong because that’s part of what we figure out together. What matters most is a willingness to be curious, make meaningful changes, and invest in your long-term health and quality of life. Overall, I do believe you either invest in your health now, or you pay to have it fixed and managed later.
I'm definitely not your average clinician! What sets me apart is the breadth of the lens I bring to each person’s care. I have a strong foundation in conventional medicine across many specialities combined with years of experience in functional and integrative health, hormone optimization, mental health, and nervous system regulation. That allows me to look at both the objective data (labs, medical history, medications, symptoms) and the less obvious factors that can profoundly influence how someone feels.
I’m also deeply curious. I don’t believe in forcing people into protocols or treating a lab value in isolation. I want to understand how all the pieces connect and then determine what actually matters most for the person sitting in front of me.
Ultimately, I think my strength is connecting the dots. I see the picture, the timeline and the trajectory that most providers don't see. I bring the science, clinical experience, and the whole person together to create care that feels both highly personalized and practical.
My mission is to empower more people to see what real health can look different than what they've been led to believe. I want to help people better understand their bodies, uncover what may be standing in the way of feeling their best, and give them a clear, personalized path forward. I believe exceptional healthcare should combine science with curiosity, look at the whole person rather than isolated symptoms, and empower people to become active participants in their health.
Ultimately, I want to help people not only improve how they feel today, but build greater health, resilience, and vitality for the years ahead.
My kids, deep conversations, inappropriate amounts of coffee, traveling somewhere I’ve never been, being near the water, creating something from nothing, and learning things that completely change the way I see the world. I love beautiful experiences, genuine connection, ridiculous laughter, and those unexpected moments when life feels just a little bit magical.
In my spare time, you’ll usually find me spending time with my kids, playing baseball in the backyard, working in the yard, or heading out for a long walk with a good podcast. I love stand-up comedy and anything that makes me genuinely laugh, and I’m always up for discovering a great restaurant or traveling somewhere new. I also have a regular meditation practice and yes, I really do meditate! I’m happiest with a mix of movement, learning, laughter, quiet moments, and time with the people I love.
